I have been noticing something for quite sometime.. Almost each individual in the IT industry wud have seen or faced such situation.
Few months back, I visited a hospital. As a matter of fact, most of the companies send their IT kids to this hospital for their medical checkups before their onsite travel. Even on that day, there were lot of IT kids waiting for their checkups.
I was seated in the reception. Next to me, a lady and her daughter were seated. The lady had accompanied her daughter for the checkup and yeah they looked happy on the reason behind the checkup. The young lady got up and walked into the doctor's cabin leaving her bag and cell with her mom. Minutes later her phone rang. Her mom picked the call. Below is one of the irritating conversations I ever heard! Trust me, I was not eavs dropping. Both the caller and the lady were audible to each member in the recepion cause the hospital had pin-drop silence.
Mom: Hello
Caller: Hi aunty, This is XYZ here. Can I speak to ABC?
Mom: We are in hospital, lady. She is with the doctor.
Caller: Is everything okay aunty?
Mom: Yeah yeah. She has come for her medicals. She will be travelling in a weeks time.
Caller: Yeah aunty. I got the news. Thats y, thought would speak to her. But aunty, she din't inform me about it! I was so happy and suprised to hear the news.
Mom: Yeah lady. She is busy.
Caller: yeah I understand aunty.
Mom: So, when are you flying?
Caller: No idea aunty.
Mom: Ask for one na.
Caller: yeah aunty.
Mom: You will have some salary hike also.
Caller: Hmmm aunty. Okay aunty. Please tell her I called.
Mom: ok lady.
Caller: Bye aunty.

This situation is not just faced by one. Almost all ITians face this situation. I have noticed that parents of IT kids start asking 'when is ur turn?' once their kids get an onsite oppurtunity.
I cannot explain how irritated I was after hearing the conversation. I couldnt sit next to that lady. I was thinking how the caller would have felt when she was asked about her travel and salary hike. That too by one of her friends mother! These people will not even know about the kind of projects and work their kids are doing. But they use all jargons to project that their kids are working for a reputed company!
It is quite obivous that all ITians will long for an onsite opportunity. They will have their own dreams. When they don't get the opportunity, they will be depressed. And when people start commenting and questioning about it, it is like a snake bit on a hurt wound.
I really wish and pray that people become more sensible. And don't play with others sentiments.
