There is something about which I wanted to blog for long. None other than our cricket team. Well it is not about how they play or how many ads they act in! It is just about the reaction which people give after each game.
Sometime back the 'hot' news was from the land of kangaroos. The question was if one called another monkey. Yeah, it is true that our boys dealt the scene well. That's another story!
When our boys were home from the win, it was a hungama. Atleast, they were not shown around the place in an open bus ;-P. Well, the show which came the next was talk of the town. I agree that the hosted show was to encourage and hounour them. But was the lumsome gift really necessary? 55 lakhs to each player!
A simple question. Why is the responsibility of a cricker? Play the game and win the match. Then, why is so much hype when they come back after a win? Is it to show that we have won the match or that we have beaten them?
55 lakhs to an aspiring player is not laughable. This is something about which the officials should be more serious and sensible. I wonder where all this money comes from? After a win they are given so much of respect.. and immediately after a loss, their cut-out if burned, their house is stoned and what not! If there is so much time to do such things, am sure there is time to do 'other' valuable things.
The message sent out from all this is unhealthy. Other aspiring players, who want to get into the team, think about all the money and recognition they would get out of the game and not about the game.
Is cricket a profession or a sport?
PS: I am also a fan of the sport. I love the sport as any other does and have great respect for few players.
